Match Report
London Broncos

By Ian Lovell
A last gasp try from London’s Jess Ingram clinched victory for her side following a keenly contested game at Ystrad Mynach Centre for Sporting Excellence.
It means that despite still not being outscored on tries, the Cardiff Demons lost for the first time ever in a 13-a-side game since their formation last year.
The early exchanges were evenly contested as both sides looked to find their shape and rhythm, but the home side were first on the scoreboard as hooker Molly Reardon dived over from dummy half. Leanne Burnell was unsuccessful with the conversion.
Both sides continued to battle, and it was London who crossed with a try by Welsh international second row Emily Hughes after Demons were called offside. Broncos' captain Courtney Treco added the extras.
Broncos extended their lead after 26 minutes as Lauren Mueller crossed for an unconverted try.
Demons hit back soon after when Bryonie King bounced off several would-be tacklers to cross for a try. Ffion Jones’ conversion attempt went wide.
Just before the half-time whistle London extended their lead with a try by prop forward Kaye Selby. Treco added the two points to see her side 16-8 ahead at the break.
Neither side could force an opening in the early second exchanges, but Cardiff found a way through when Reardon crossed for her second try of the day 15 minutes after the break. Leanne Burnell added the goal to cut the deficit to two points.
Four minutes later, following a London knock on, Charlie Munday’s determined run from 30 metres was rewarded with a try to put her side two points ahead. Ffion Jones’ goal attempt bounced off a post to safety.
Both sides continued to work hard but scoring opportunities were thwarted by good defence.
Then came the late dramatic sucker punch. From a penalty Broncos made ground, and with the clock running down from the last play of the set in the last few seconds, Broncos' hooker Jess Ingram broke the home team’s hearts by plunging over for a try out wide. Courtney Treco missed the conversion although it mattered not as referee Rob Apsee blew his whistle to call time and spark wild celebrations from the Broncos squad and management.
