In their first season playing Rugby League, Pill Harriers under 16s took their first trophy, beating Rhondda Outlaws 38-22 in an exciting contest.

Pill Harriers took an early lead through Lennon Greggains and some ill-discipline five metres from the try line by The Outlaws, Fraser Stroud converted.

Some big tackles from both sides ensured an exciting match until Pill had their first of three yellow cards seeing captain Fraser Stroud in the bin, Rhondda capitalised quickly through another strong carry as Declan Thomas scored an unconverted try before Tom Crees gave them the lead with Cobi Green converting to put them 10-6 up.

Pill returned to 13 men and some fantastic defence from Dewi Billingham, Jack Phillips, Curtis Barnes and the ever-reliable James Smith ensured Rhondda were stuck in their half. Good vision from Jake McDonald led to another change on the scoreboard scooting from his own 20 carving the opposition apart and drawing in the fullback before allowing James McCarthy to run away for his first on the day, converting himself to make the score 12-10.

It was 18-10 to Pill at the break as the final attack of the half led to a try by Matthew Williams, converted again from McCarthy. They soon extended their advantage to 24-10 after good build up led to an easy run over for Lennon Greggains which McCarthy converted. But after Greggains was sent to the bin for fighting, Rhondda again took full advantage of the one man overlap with McCauley Harris bringing the scores to within two tries. Green added his second goal.

But still with 12 players, Pill scored twice more to seal the game. McDonald and McCarthy both going over with McCarthy adding the conversion on each occasion. With the final whistle fast approaching, McCarthy sealed his sixth hat-trick of the season,

Rhondda had the last say on the night with a never day die attitude, Harris scoring his second and Green converting on the final whistle.
